AS400 / IBM i Application Developer (Contract)

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain applications on the AS400 / IBM i platform supporting insurance business processes
• Work on RPG, RPGLE, CL, and related technologies to deliver enhancements, fixes, and system improvements
• Support core insurance systems including policy, underwriting, claims, billing, or related operational workflows
• Perform system analysis, impact assessment, and technical solutioning based on business requirements
• Handle production support activities, including incident resolution, root-cause analysis, and performance optimisation
• Collaborate closely with business users, analysts, and infrastructure teams to ensure system stability and continuity
• Contribute to documentation, knowledge transfer, and long-term maintainability of legacy applications
• Support testing, deployment, and post-implementation validation for system changes

Job Requirements

Must Have

• Minimum 4–5 years of hands-on experience working on AS400 / IBM i platforms
• Strong programming experience in RPG / RPGLE and CL
• Prior experience working in the insurance industry or on insurance-related systems

Others

• Solid understanding of DB2 on IBM i and legacy system architectures
• Experience supporting business-critical, high-availability production systems
• Ability to work independently in a mature, legacy-heavy environment with minimal hand-holding
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to translate business needs into technical solutions
