Product Design Manager

Our client is delivers digital products and experiences for organisations across financial services, the public sector and enterprise environments. They are seeking a Product Design Manager to lead complex design engagements, maintain high standards of design quality and develop a team of designers. The position combines hands-on product design, people management, client engagement and contributions to the growth of the design practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee product design delivery across multiple client engagements, ensuring quality, timely execution and alignment with business and user needs.
• Remain actively involved in hands-on design work, providing direction and contributing to complex UX, interaction design, visual design and design system initiatives.
• Manage, mentor and develop designers through coaching, constructive feedback and ongoing support for their professional growth.
• Support team expansion through recruitment, talent assessment, resource planning and allocation of designers across client projects.
• Establish and maintain design standards, reusable frameworks, processes and documentation to improve consistency and delivery effectiveness.
• Collaborate with product management, strategy and other cross-functional stakeholders to develop integrated solutions and communicate design recommendations effectively.
• Explore and implement AI-enabled design workflows, automation, prototyping tools and other practical solutions to improve design productivity and quality.
• Build and maintain client relationships, contribute to proposals and pitches, and support business development and the growth of the design practice.
• Contribute to design knowledge-sharing and professional community activities through mentoring, presentations, writing or other relevant initiatives.

Job Requirements

• Approximately 8+ years of experience in product design or UX design, including 2–3 years in a senior design practitioner or leadership capacity.
• Tertiary qualification in a design-related discipline.
• Strong hands-on product design capabilities, supported by a portfolio demonstrating visual and interaction design, UX problem-solving, systems thinking and measurable design outcomes.
• Experience leading complex product design initiatives across enterprise, B2B or B2C environments, ideally within a consultancy or client-facing delivery setting.
• Demonstrated ability and genuine interest in mentoring, coaching and developing designers. Candidates progressing from senior individual contributor positions into people management may also be considered.
• Advanced proficiency in Figma, prototyping tools and design systems, with working knowledge of user research and service design practices.
• Practical experience building solutions using AI-enabled tools, such as workflow automation, AI agents, code-assisted prototyping or related productivity tools, beyond the routine use of AI assistants.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain design decisions, manage competing priorities and work effectively with senior client stakeholders.
• Sound commercial awareness, with the ability to balance design quality, delivery commitments and client requirements.
• Exposure to hiring, resource planning, business development activities or design community contributions would be advantageous.
